Your baby shower is almost ready… Everything is set up and ready to go: the games, the food, the cake, the fun! And then you realize you forgot something: The invitation. What good is the best party possible, with the most expensive supplies, without any guests to enjoy it?
To make your party invitation, don’t worry so much about being very choosy with the words, or it may take you a lot longer than you think to decide. The best wording in an invitation simply sets the tone for the party, and in that it can be very important. It all depends on whether your party’s theme is casual, a little more dressed-up, or even humorous.
For example, you could use poems, quotes from famous people, or simply write as you would normally speak to a friend! There are many baby shower sites on the internet which provide examples that you can build out from; there are even some gender-specific wordings for your invitation, if you know ahead of time what gender you baby will be.
Another excellent idea is simply to use baby rhymes. If you want to give the invitation a personal touch, place the names of the parent on the inside cover. You could probably also insert some lyrics from any song that you like or that is currently popular. Famous stories like Humpty Dumpty or Jack and Jill could add a little playfulness to the invitation too.
The most important thing that you should definitely not forget is the names of the guest of honor, the date, the time, and the place where it will be held. If the place is unfamiliar to the guests, you could place a little map to guide them there. Double-check to make sure that these key factors in any invitation are written nice and clearly.
If the party is going to be a surprise, don’t forget to mention that in the invitation! Nothing would be worse than someone giving it away because they didn’t realize.
Another important thing to include would be an RSVP, with your name and number so that guests can contact you if any unforeseen events occur.
As for gifts, you could include a little gift registry or a suggestion of what gifts might be good to bring. Guests are always worried about how their gift will be received, and they would much rather bring something that will be appreciated and not left in some closet to gather dust.
Finally, consider the presentation and the envelope. The most important thing here is that everything goes along with the theme and the favors of your baby shower. If you select an angel or heavenly theme, go with little angels along the envelope and card; or if you select a policeman or fireman theme, those should decorate your card as well. If you don’t have any theme, go with little baby bottles and toys.
